Freelance Thursdays is a networking event for freelancers, organised by freelancers. During these events we learn from each other and exchange ideas. This session will start with a talk from Selma Franssen, who will discuss her side-hustles and talk about her experiences writing a book.
Selma Franssen (31) is a Dutch journalist living in Brussels, with bylines at Bustle, The New Statesman, Vice, Newsweek and others. A fulltime book geek, she returned to university aged 30 to obtain her masters degree in literature, while publishing her non-fiction debut “Vriendschap in tijden van eenzaamheid” (“Friendship in a time of loneliness”) in the same year. She’s been a professional side hustler for over a decade, combining work in communications and journalism with anything from teaching to pet sitting. Some of her side hustles grew into fulltime jobs and vice versa. During this edition of Freelance Thursdays, she will discuss topics such as: Are side hustles only for millennials? Do you need one? Should any hobby be turned into a paid side gig? What if your side hustle takes over your life?!
The event is free of charge. You should, however, register on Eventbrite.
